Poker Chips For Sale

By Ronnie On November 30, 2009 Under Featured Post, Poker Chips For Sale

Thinking about buying poker chips? Many players are tired of the cheap plastic chips they can buy at any board game store or hobby shop. They want to move up the ladder a little and use a chip that has some heft to it. But just which chips should you buy? Here’s a look at the history of poker chips, the available materials, and some techniques that can help you avoid buying a dud. Remember – good poker chips are a big investment, but they’re worth it in the long run.

Poker chips have been around for a long time, and have been important in the development of the game itself. Originally come up with in the late 1800s, they were a great way to replace the previous methods of keeping track of who had won what. Up until then, players just used whatever they had around, and had frequen disagreements. It wasn’t until people had poker chips for sale that they had a way to standardize betting.

The first poker chips were made out of all kinds of materials, including wood, bone, ivory, and the clay chips we still use today. Unfortunately, completely clay chips were usually brittle and easy to break, so chalk and sand were added to the clay, as well as some other stronger materials. Since then, all poker chips of this kind have been made out of various mixtures of clay and other materials. The clay chip has become standard for use in casinos and other professional settings.

Casinos have had a big influence on the development of all the poker chips out there for sale, too. The originally did this by using a special formula and special mold shapes. That meant that chips from one casino couldn’t be used or cashed at another one. Every casino had, and still has, its own special chips. Clay is still the biggest and most popular options, but some casinos are starting to use resin chips with a metal core, which have UV sensitive markings on them. These are even harder to counterfeit.

So, which of all the many kinds of poker chips for sale should you buy? That can get complicated, since you’re unlikely to have the same basic requirements as a casino. While everyone wants to prevent cheating, it’s just not as much of a problem at home. But playing with professional style chips can be a lot of fun, especially if you’d like to play in more serious games later.

Clay poker chips can be expensive. This is why many poker players decide to buy less costly imitations, usually made in China or similar countries. When making your decision on poker chips for sale, be sure to request a sample. This will help you decide which one to buy, and will give you the chance to test out these chips. Here are a few tests you should run these sample chips through.

First, see if the chips have a label or printed inlay on them, instead of an image embedded in the chip. If you can peel the label off with your nail or the edge of a knife, it might come off during the game. If the label or inlay stays put, it’ll probably be fine for home play. See if there’s a clear layer that easily comes off, or if the printing can be scratched. Dip a chip in water and let it sit, then come back and check it out. If it peels off, the chip will be ruined the first time someone spills a beer or soda on it. Make sure that any labels are centered, and that they line up with the rest of the chip.

Some chips have hot stamping instead of labels. These are usually done in gold. You should try scratching it off, and rub two chips together to make sure it won’t become dirty or smeared. After all, poker chips rub together all the time. Remember to smack the edges of a few chips together. If they mark or dent, they’re actually higher quality clay chips. Just make sure they don’t mark so badly the chip won’t work. Some chips have sharp edges that are meant to wear down with use, while others have pre-rounded edges.

How do they stack up? Clay chips tend to stack better than composite or plastic chips, which slip and fall over easily. Good clay can be stacked up to a hundred chips high without issues. Weight will affect stackability as well. A chip that doesn’t stack well will be annoying to play with, and can ruin a game if high stacks of chips suddenly tip over. Be sure you have chips that will work well for the way you play.

Taking the time to order samples of the poker chips for sale that you’re considering, and testing them carefully, is a smart choice. It’ll give you a good idea of what a given type of chip will be like in play, and will help you avoid the kinds that are too cheaply made to be worth buying. A good set of casino poker chips can be a great addition to your poker room, but they’ll also last a long time, and get better as you play with them. Good quality poker chips are worth the investment!

Be sure you get the kind of poker chips that will work best for your next gambling venture. Don’t just rush out and buy the first set you see. Instead, consider how you play and what you need out of a chip. That’ll get you the right one for your needs. A good set of clay poker chips can last you for the rest of your life, if you buy the right ones. Do your homework and don’t be in a hurry, and you’ll be glad you took the time to improve the way your gaming goes.
